Two-time Tony winner Shaina Taub (Suffs) will receive the 2025 Educational Theatre Association's Founders' Award at the 2025 Theatre Education Conference, being held June 22-24 in Bloomington, Indiana. The honor recognizes artists whose work has made profound impacts on the growth and development of theatre education, research, and practice. Taub will also join EdTA Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Katona for a keynote conversation during the conference.

Taub was both the star and sole writer of Suffs, which played a Broadway run in 2024 after an Off-Broadway world premiere. Taub won Tony Awards for her book and score, and was a Grammy nominee for its Broadway cast recording.

鈥淪haina Taub embodies the spirit of the Founders鈥 Award through her artistry, advocacy, and unwavering belief in the power of theatre to shape young minds,鈥 says Katona in a statement. 鈥淗er work not only elevates the stories of those often unheard, but also actively creates space for students to engage with theatre that is meaningful, inclusive, and transformative. We are honored to recognize her contributions to our field and are thrilled to welcome her to TEC as we come together to imagine the future of theatre education.鈥

Held onsite at EdTA's International Thespian Festival, the three-day Theatre Education Conference features workshops, research roundtables, mentorship opportunities, an early-career track, and networking opportunities for theatre educators. The project aims to give arts educators both professional development and community building opportunities, sparking conversations they hope will lead to artistic renewal.
