Tony and Grammy winner Ren茅e Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton, Girls5Eva) will release a debut solo album, Who I Really Am, June 6.
Blending soul, funk, blues, pop, and her gospel roots, Who I Really Am is introduced with the first single 鈥淪taring,鈥 now available .
"For years, I鈥檝e poured my heart into bringing other people鈥檚 vision to life鈥攐n Broadway, in the studio, and on screen," says Goldsberry. "But this moment is mine. These songs are deeply personal鈥攄rawn from the full range of my experiences, from joy to heartbreak, and everything in between. They represent a new beginning鈥攐ne I鈥檝e been quietly building toward for a long time."
Who I Really Am will feature 13 original songs鈥11 written by Goldsberry鈥攖hat explore love, heartbreak, creative independence, and self-discovery. Tracks will include 鈥淒on鈥檛 Want to Love You,鈥 a spare and emotionally rich ballad written by Goldsberry鈥檚 Girls5eva co-star Sara Bareilles; and 鈥淪miling,鈥 an R&B-leaning goodbye anthem that Goldsberry calls, 鈥渟unshine on a bad-ass bass line.鈥 Additionally, the record will include a new, guitar-led version of 鈥淪atisfied,鈥 the Lin-Manuel Miranda-penned number that became Goldsberry鈥檚 signature song in Hamilton. The track was debuted by Miranda at the United Palace Theater earlier this year to kick off the celebration of Hamilton's 10th anniversary.
