Leslye Headland's Cult of Love is officially headed to the big screen, as confirmed April 17 following earlier reports stemming from comments made by Headland. The project will be produced by Gloria Sanchez Productions, the film banner of Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum. Headland will direct and adapt the screenplay from her stage script.

The work made a Broadway debut earlier this season via Second Stage Theater at the Helen Hayes, with a run completing February 2. Directed by Trip Cullman on the stage, the play centers on the four adult children of the Dahl family and their partners as they return home for a rocky holiday gathering. The play marked Headland's Broadway debut, following her tenure as the show-runner on Star Wars: Acolyte

This will be the latest Headland-written project for Ferrell and Elbaum, following earlier releases Bachelorette and Sleeping With Other People.

“Leslye’s voice is singular—darkly funny, wildly insightful, and deeply human, says Elbaum in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited to help bring Cult of Love to a wider audience.

“To be making Cult of Love with Will and Jessica—two producers who champion bold, unapologetic storytelling—is a true creative homecoming, adds Headland. “This story has lived in my bones for years, and I can’t wait to bring it to the screen with partners who embrace its chaos and heart.

Casting and a production schedule for the film is yet to be announced.
