The Stage Crew Supervisor plays a critical leadership role within the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) production team, acting as the lead on-site supervisor for event load-ins, rehearsals, and performances. This position is responsible for executing production plans, managing stage and technical crew, maintaining venue standards, and ensuring client satisfaction. The Supervisor serves as a key liaison between the venue and performers, promoters, and clients, and is empowered to make decisions in the absence of the Production Director.
Key Responsibilities
Production Execution & Leadership
*Follow and implement production plans as communicated by the Production Director.
*Supervise and direct lighting, audio, and stage crews to ensure timely and effective event setup and operation.
*Oversee scenery, furniture, prop placement, and material handling as required for events.
*Ensure crew receives mandated meal and coffee breaks; report any break penalties or labor issues to the Production Director.
*Make production decisions in the absence of the Production Director, ensuring continuity and quality of event execution.
Venue & Equipment Oversight
*Maintain familiarity with venue technical equipment and systems; report malfunctions or concerns promptly.
*Conduct basic visual inspections of rigging systems, including fly rail operations, counterweight arbors, and rope integrity.
*Ensure proper setup and full restoration of venue systems after each event.
*Support accurate upkeep of venue technical documentation and inventory needs (perishables, hardware, tools).
Workplace Organization & Safety
*Maintain safe, clean, and organized backstage areas, including the loading dock and crew workspaces.
*Promote and enforce venue safety and security protocols; report any violations or hazards immediately.
*Use discretion and professionalism when handling venue alarm codes, keys, and secure access areas.
Reporting & Communication
*Complete post-event production reports using templates provided by the Production Director.
*Serve as the on-site representative of UCPAC with artists, promoters, and clients.
*Communicate any technical, personnel, or scheduling issues to the Production Director in a timely and thorough manner.
Qualifications
*Minimum 3 years of experience in theatrical or live event production with supervisory responsibilities.
*Strong working knowledge of stagecraft, lighting, sound, and rigging systems.
*Demonstrated leadership ability in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
*Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
*Ability to troubleshoot technical problems calmly and efficiently during live events.
*Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event needs.
*Familiarity with OSHA regulations and standard theatrical safety procedures preferred.
Physical Demands

*Frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and move around backstage areas.
*Regularly required to lift, push, pull, or carry equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
*Ability to work at heights using lifts or catwalks, and in dimly lit or loud environments.
*Must be able to work long shifts, including late nights, with periods of high physical activity.
