Off-Broadway's Bated Breath Theatre Company (Voyeur, Chasing Andy Warhol) has launched a New York Center for Immersive Theater next to Grand Central.
The space, located at 205 E. 42nd Street, is a venue for the development and presentation of new, immersive work as well as actor training. Made possible by ChaShaMa, the venue will offer analysis, training, mentorship, and space for collaboration and performance.
Planned programming for the inaugural season at NYCIT will include salon-style conversations with Executive Artistic Director Mara Lieberman, a pop-up play reading series examining political theatre from the 1930s through the present, a Viewpoints class, devising sessions with Bated Breath's in-house ensemble, a director and designer lab, and an audition-based theatre group that devises and performs political theatre on the street that is inspired and informed by current events.
