Manhattan Theatre Club celebrates the official opening of Bekah Brunstetter's The Cake March 5. The Off-Broadway premiere, directed by MTC's artistic director , follows productions of the new play in Los Angeles, The Berkshires, and other locations.
In The Cake, a North Carolina baker (played by Debra Jo Rupp) is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs when her late best friend鈥檚 daughter asks her to make a cake for her lesbian wedding. Rupp, who is reprising the role of Della from previous productions, is joined Off-Broadway by Marinda Anderson (Teenage Dick, Far From Heaven), Genevieve Angelson (, The Upside), and Dan Daily (The Rivals, Seabiscuit).
The Cake is playing at New York City Center 鈥� Stage I, where performances began February 12.
