Broadway favorite Kerry Butler has joined the cast of the upcoming Off-Broadway revival of Heathers, to star as Ms. Fleming and Veronica's Mom. The casting reunites Butler with composer Laurence O'Keefe, after both launched their careers with Bat Boy: The Musical Off-Broadway in 2001.
The show, written by Kevin Murphy and O'Keefe, is coming back to New World Stages, where the musical made its Off-Broadway debut in 2014. This staging comes via London's The Other Palace, where the musical became a long-running hit that even got a live stage filming. The limited engagement will begin June 22 and continue through September 28. Andy Fickman is back to direct, after staging both the original Off-Broadway and London productions.
Also joining the newly announced complete cast are Erin Morton as Martha Dunnstock; Xavier McKinnon as Ram Sweeney; Cade Ostermeyer as Kurt Kelly; Ben Davis as Ram's Dad, Big Bud Dean, and Coach Ripper; and Cameron Loyal as Kurt鈥檚 Dad, Veronica鈥檚 Dad, and Principal Gowan. The ensemble will feature James Caleb Grice, Devin Lewis, Kiara Michelle Lee, Brian Martin, Syd Sider, and Cecilia Trippied, with standbys and swings Sara Al-Bazali, Emma Benson, Louis Griffin, and Lav Raman rounding out the company. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Rachel Hoffman and Jimmy Larkin.
They join previously announced cast members Lorna Courtney (& Juliet) as Veronica Sawyer, Casey Likes (Back to the Future) as J.D., McKenzie Kurtz (Wicked) as Heather Chandler, Olivia Ease Hardy (Kimberly Akimbo) as Heather Duke, and Elizabeth Teeter (Beetlejuice) as Heather McNamara.
鈥淚 think we鈥檝e assembled one of the greatest casts we鈥檝e ever had for Heathers,鈥 says Fickman in a statement. 鈥淭alk about luxury casting! We鈥檙e over the moon to have the remarkable Kerry Butler, one of Broadway鈥檚 favorite leading ladies, as Ms. Fleming and Veronica鈥檚 Mom. We鈥檝e caught lightning in a bottle with Erin Morton as our Martha, and her take on 'Kindergarten Boyfriend' will break many hearts. Xavier McKinnon and Cade Ostermeyer are the perfect team as Ram and Kurt, and we are blessed to have two Broadway vocal powerhouses, Ben Davis and Cameron Loyal, as their dads. Syd Sider, who plays Stoner Chick, and Cade Ostermeyer, who plays Kurt, were discovered at our open calls. We were bowled over by their talent, and the many others we saw during that process, whom we hope to work with in the future. In the meantime, we can鈥檛 wait to get school in session for this year鈥檚 class of Westerberg High.鈥
Heathers the Musical follows Westerberg High student Veronica Sawyer, who's on track to become one of the most popular girls in school after befriending the beautiful but cruel Heathers, only to meet a mysterious teen rebel who changes everything.

The authors revised the show for a 2018 West End run, before playing two national tours and a West End encore engagement鈥攕everal new songs and script changes that will be heard in New York for the first time in the forthcoming run.
Fickman is reuniting his London creative team for the Off-Broadway mounting, including choreographer Gary Lloyd (the upcoming staging will also include additional choreography by Stephanie Klemons), set and costume designer David Shields (this staging will also feature co-costume design by Siena Zo毛 Allen), lighting designer Ben Cracknell, and sound designer Dan Samson. Will Joy will serve as music supervisor, with Mona Seyed-Bolorforosh as music director.
The associate team will include associate director Taylor Haven Holt, associate lighting designer Colleen Doherty, associate sound designer Germ谩n Martinez, and assistant costume designer Amanda Roberge.
