Michael Patrick Thornton, of Broadway's recent A Doll's House and Macbeth revivals, has boarded the upcoming Broadway run of Waiting for Godot, set, as previously announced, to reunite Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as Estragon and Vladimir, respectively. Thornton will co-star as Lucky.
Jamie Lloyd (Sunset Boulevard) will direct the new staging of the Samuel Beckett play, beginning previews September 13 at the Hudson Theatre ahead of a September 28 opening night. The limited engagement will continue through January 4, 2026.
The casting also marks a reunion for Thornton and Lloyd, who previously collaborated on the 2023 Broadway revival of A Doll's House, which starred Jessica Chastain. Thornton received the Callaway Award for his performance.
The production will mark Reeves' Broadway debut. Winter previously appeared on Broadway as a child, playing John Darling in the 1979 Sandy Duncan-led Peter Pan.
Premiering in 1953, Waiting for Godot centers on two men waiting for the titular Godot, engaging in a number of discussions in the meantime. The work has become a theatrical classic. On Broadway alone, the upcoming revival will be the play's fifth major staging.
