International licensing rights for Broadway's Avett Brothers musical Swept Away have been acquired by Theatrical Rights Worldwide. Inspired by the Avett Brothers' 2004 album Mignonette, the musical features a score of songs by the folk-rock group and a book by John Logan. The work played a brief Broadway run last year.
A cast album was released via Joy Machine Records February 7, and a double vinyl release is due to follow April 25. Listen .
The work follows four survivors of an 1888 shipwreck off the coast of New Bedford, Massachusetts. As they struggle to stay alive, they must question whether or not they can live with the consequences of their actions, and discover how tragedy can lead to forgiveness.
