DESCRIPTION

The Play Group Theatre (PGT), a Westchester based non-profit educational theatre organization dedicated to providing diverse theatre making experiences and performance opportunities to children and teenagers, is seeking Teaching Artists, Directors, and Music Directors for our upcoming summer program. Camp PGT is a daytime theatre intensive program, which includes multi-discipline sessions in July, and takes place in PGT鈥檚 state-of-the-art facility in White Plains, NY, easily accessible by Metro North or car.

We are seeking artists who possess imagination, flexibility and the desire to work with children and teenagers of varied ages in a creatively charged and artistically demanding, yet nurturing environment. Our teachers must be prepared to work as a member of a strong creative team, and to help our students achieve quality performances, while still giving focus to the artistic process.

The ideal candidate holds a BFA/BA (MFA/MA preferred) and can teach a variety of theatre related disciplines. Our programs include classes in Acting Technique, Musical Theatre, Shakespeare, Improv, On Camera, Stage Combat, Sketch Comedy, Audition Technique, Playwriting, Viewpoints, Suzuki, Accents and Dialects, and more.

Experience with and interest in teaching a variety of ages is a must! Our programs include Little Theatre (ages 4-6) through Teen Conservatory (ages 13-17) and programs such as Sketch Comedy, On Camera, Playwriting and more for ages 7-17. The focus of several Camp PGT programs is on the development of new works.

Each summer program includes a final showcase of the students鈥 work. We seek teachers and directors who have experience in an educational theatre setting in which they have successfully balanced a sound creative process with a quality product.

Applicants should possess:

  • Minimum 3-5 years teaching and/or directing experience

  • excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects at once

  • a desire to practice collaboration

  • grace and a sense of humor under pressure

  • a sense of playfulness balanced with a fierce work ethic

  • the qualities necessary to be a positive role model for children and teenagers

  • the ability to apply the 鈥測es AND鈥 rule of improv to the workplace

  • experience being bombarded with children and all their stuff and a good deal of noise, and thrive in that setting

Camp PGT includes daily classes and rehearsals, with showcases, performances, visiting artists, and several camp-wide creative activities throughout the summer. The full camp season is a five week commitment, including one staff week and four weeks of camp. Camp is held Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm at The Play Group Theatre鈥檚 facility in downtown White Plains, NY.
