Jak Malone has won the 2025 Tony for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical at the 78th Annual Tony Awards, held at Radio City Music Hall June 8.
Malone won for his Broadway debut performance as Hester Leggett in the madcap, poignant Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical, which recently crossed the Atlantic to play the John Golden Theatre.
"To [Operation Mincemeat writers, and mostly Malone's co-stars in the musical] Dave, Tash, Zoe, and Felix, thank you for writing what I believe to be the best musical theatre song in recent memory, and not having the good sense to sing it yourselves," said Malone accepting the award, referring to his biggest standout performance in the musical, "Dear Bill." "And if you watched our show and found yourself believing in Hester, well then I am so glad to tell you that intentionally or otherwise, you might have just bid for farewell to cynicism, to outdated ideas, to that rotten old binary and opened yourself up to a world that is already out there in glorious technicolor and isn’t going away."

Others in the category included Brooks Ashmanskas (SMASH), Jeb Brown (Dead Outlaw), Danny Burstein (Gypsy), and Taylor Trensch (Floyd Collins).
With razor wit, a velvet voice, and an arsenal of emotional nuance, Malone’s turn as MI5 secretary Hester Leggett is an instant classic. Channeling old-school British propriety and world-weary warmth, he delivers one of the show’s most jaw-dropping numbers with heartbreaking precision.
After originating the role in London—where he earned an Olivier—Malone’s Broadway debut has been nothing short of triumphant.
